Octagon Sun or 8sun
Here are a few things I figure y’all should know about me:
- I’m from the USA. I’ve lived in California, the Midwest, and the Mountain West.
- I also lived in El Salvador for 2 years as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I didn’t live there in the same way I live in the USA, but my time there was incredibly influential in becoming who I am today.
- I am active on Twitter and Twitch, but otherwise try to keep a small online presence.
- I have a B.S. in Math, with minors in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies.
- I am invested in the following issues: immigration, human rights (with emphasis on critical ones like life, liberty, religion/conscience), childhood advocacy, mental illness advocacy, international affairs, justice reform, education reform, antipoverty action, cultivation of families, free trade, antitrust action, prohibition, and science advocacy. This probably won’t come up too often in what you find here, but if you follow my Twitter, some of these will come up a lot. I also note that I don’t identify with any political organization or movement right now; I am sad and lonely about all things politics.
- Some of my main literary and philosophical influences: Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriela Mistral, Jules Verne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Project Aces, Maria Gaetana Agnesi, Jakob von Uexküll, Joseph Smith, Enoch, and Jesus the Christ. My reasons for each influence vary, but I’d say they’re all worth understanding.
- I love stories. Jules Verne, Borges, and Project Aces are some storytellers I love, but I’m open to good stories of all origins. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Clannad, SSSS.Gridman, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Little Witch Academia are some of my favorite anime. Rab ne bana di jodi is my favorite Bollywood (I haven’t seen any others but it’s good enough to recommend). Homestuck is my favorite webcomic (with reservations, caveats, and several concerns). Some favorite videogames include Ace Combat, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and Monster Hunter. The Guilty (2018, Danish) is my favorite recent film. As for music, I’d point you towards the work of Regina Spektor and Cloud Cult.
- I want you to have as good a day as you can. Blessings upon you.
